Function of contactors:

Contactor in electric locos is a switch which makes and breaks a power circuit on load and is remotely controlled.

Different Contactors used in Electric Locomotives:

1) Electromagnetic  contactor 

2) Electro pneumatic contactor

3) Cam & roller operated contactor.
