Torque Speed Characteristics of A.C series motor:


The torque speed characteristics of ac series motor is shown in figure. It is clear that AC series motor develops high torque at low speed and vice versa. It is because an increase in torque requires an increasing armature current which is also the field current in series motor. The result is that the flux is 
strengthened and hence speed drops (as N α 1/ Ï•). The main features of the torque-speed characteristics of A.C series motor are as below:  
1) It has high starting torque because initially T a(Ia)2.
2) It is variable speed motor and automatically adjusts speed as load changes.
3) For DC series motor the torque obtained is somewhat high than AC series motor.
